It’s been just a little under 3 weeks since Volume 1 of “I Dreamt I Was A Red Knight’s Squire” released on New Years Eve. The first few weeks have been phenomenal! I’ve had an outpouring of support from friends, past readers and even some newbies who’ve discovered me with this launch.
There’s been some very positive feedback from Light Novel influences and it’s starting to get some reviews on both Goodreads and Amazon.
But by far the coolest thing to have happened was the other day when I woke up to some interesting news about my book. Right at the two week mark since it launched, it broke the Top 100 Teen & Young Adult Contemporary Fantasy ebooks Category on Amazon. I have never even come close to something like this happening before. And to top it all off, the book was also Top 1000 in 4 other categories, including a few in the Top 200 or 300.
All this to say that these numbers fluctuate a lot and I have since dropped back, but I have also moved up a fair bit again. The algorithm is determined by not only sales, but overall interest in the book. How many people click an ad, how long they stay on the page even if they didn’t purchase, etc… So it’s not like I’m selling like crazy or anything. But what sales I have had contributed to placing it #94 for about 4-5 hours.
And since my book was a new release, they place it along with 2 other new releases in a special box that was shown at the top of the list!
This may not be the biggest Category they have, but it is certainly a big one. There’s over 20, 000 books ranked. And to put it into perspective how big of a deal it is to crack the Top 100, just know that the Top 7 spots are all Harry Potter…still!
Even the Twilight books are still floating around in Top 20. That’s because books like that are selling without even advertising now. And even without the sales, there’s still enough buzz to keep them around. So it’s nice to know that an indie writer like me can potentially close that gap. With the right following, marketing and timing, I can see how it would be possible to make Top 50, at least for a while.
But until then, I’d appreciate it if you’d go over to the Kindle listing and at least read the preview pages if you haven’t already. Whether you buy the book from me or from Amazon, simply visiting the page helps me out!
